Contents page NME

Here in this contents page, in contrast to the kerrang contents, this is less compact. They're are not as many images but a large amount of text. This is mainly taken up by a band index on the left. The reason for this would be for that people reading this, who have a intrest in bands could look on the left to discover if they're band is in this issue. The main image is of a band playing live, also a small article is written describe the image. There is no main article, this is just a small and usually intresting article to lure the audience into reading further articles. Again like Kerrang they have included a puff telling the audiecne to subscribe to this magazine for future issues of this magazine. Also again they have kept the contents and page order tidy, sections and titles. Also this included small captions desribing what is on the page intresting the audience to see fully what is going on in the magazine. Below the contents are bonuses for the magazine, and they're are largly promoting the gigs guide, for new people purchasing the magazine to see what gigs are the best. This is a main feature for interacting with the audience that are not to familar with the musical genre. Other than that they're are many references to other musical jargon, that would only appeal to people who take a intrest in this genre. Again this looks smart and professional due to the not of use of colours, the neat and tidy non serif font, with the occasional red associated with the logo and the colour scheme is used.

Contents analysis

Here in this contents page, they're alot images, each promoting a band or promotive product. Kerrang have used a smart and professional look for their contents page. Stick to a professional colour scheme and a smart layout. Although it may be crampt, it has all the information on one page about the magazine. The main large image is promoting the main feature in this magazine, the image used is random and is used to make the audience wonder what the point is this image thus reading on to see You me at six. Also around the main image are other significant bands, that are also being promoted. They mostly consist of small images used so that the current fans of that bands, will recognise them and move straight to they page or know where they are for future references.  Also small captions have been put in under intresting the audience. On the right they have placed the contents page numbers, in a small area and including titles and sub titles orgainsing the contents of the magazine, making it so that pages are dotted everywhere for no reason. Also in the top right and bottom left, they're are two puffs promoting the magazine, asking to subscribe for further future copies of the magazine. Also they have a comment from the very editor himself, making you feel like your getting to know the acutal editor.

Double Page Spread Analysis

Here I have analysed a kerrang double page spread involving My Chemical Romance. They are mostly known for Emo rock. So for this, they have kept a dark and red colour scheme. All the pictures have been made black and white for a dark effect to add to the colour scheme. Also they pictures consist of them performing or acting in a musical way, consisting of medium shots and close ups. The headline for the page is promotting the fact that they're the best, grabbing the attention of the audience to wonder what makes them so special reading on. Also the use of "My Chemical Romance invite US to their recording studio" makes it look like they are so big and popular that they don't need the promotion but kerrang need them to make their magazine stand out, feeling like they've personally only asked for kerrang. Also on the left of the spread is a few tracks from their upcoming album, though you can't put music onto paper, they've desribed what the tracks sound like, referring the festivals and genres of rock asuming the audience knows alot about the genre of this magazine. In the text they're are alot of quotes of the band, making the audience feel like they're getting to talk to the band personally aswell as feel like they're talking to the band themselfs. As soon as the text opens, it immediently opens with "Superstars" already grabbing a majority of the audience. As the magazine consisntly uses jargon on a musical audience would know, they're also trying to promote the band to others that are not, by recurring the words that they are big and popular for a reason. As they're are a Emo, they have a picture of the lead singers giving emotion in one of the images when recording. Attaching emotion to the current audience that already know about them. Also they're trying to promote that they aren't as emotional as everyone thinks, they are trying to reach out to a new audience. Also around the spread are read titles, reinforcing the genre of the band, aswell as the bold "World Exclusive" implying that this is the only interview in any magazine with this band, either  bring they're current fan audience to this magazine, and also the people who are not aware of the band and are interiged to why kerrang has a got a world exclusive with them.

Double Page Spread Analysis

Here in this double page spread article, the layout for this is simple yet very effective. The simple use of a image consuming a large area of the spread and then a 1/3 of the article. It looks very professional and neat. There is no overloading amount of images and a sutible amount of text, just enought for the audience to read but not so much that they will get tired. The colour scheme is very effective, the baige a, black and dark red gives it a retro effect, a old feel to it, while the blue spots around the spread add colour towards it. In the text there is alot of references to other bands, that only people intrested in this genre of music would know. There is alot of referencing to them being better than bands in the critea such as The Smiths, promoting that they are truely better than them. Also it contains alot of quotes from the band itself, giving you a feel that you are speaking to them or that you know them personally. Also it gives alot of information of their where abouts in England, giving them a place you know is close and can relate to. The image is stereotypical as generally band pictures have the singer at the front, rhythem guitarist to the right, bass to left and the drummer at the back. Very rarely these posistions change unless a band member contributes more by writing lyrics etc.

Magazine Analysis

Here, in this magzine this is the genre of music I will be relating to. As you can see it sticks with the dark colours, red, black and the faded baige, it looks professional yet it’s simple and effective. The image covers a majority of the page, which the darkness and fear it produced is enough to stand out from the other music magazines. The image is a close up of one of the band members wearing a mask. The close up is used to focus on the mask and the mouth clenching, showing anger and hate. Also the caption "Somebody's gonna get killed" is enough for anyone wanting to purchased the magazine and read on. The "killed" is appealing to crime, which everyone is intrested in to, see if any trouble is being caused. Also the colour scheme is effective and reinforces the picture, such as the baige matching with the mask. Again if the apply the semiotic theory, the red implys death, blood, which again people will presume with the stereotype to be death and brutal (Ideology) Also the use of buzz words such as "FREE" is grabbing the attention as the audience will always look out for free or cheap items, to get the best for their buck. Also if the main image/headline doesn't appeal to others, there is a features box containing several popular bands, gaining a more variety of the audience. T

Music magazine

Here is a music magazine which I have analysed the features of what has been used on the front cover.
Also it has several distinctive features that stand out, such as the image has been split in three and looking like the magazine has been ripped including several different medium shots of Brandon. Also the green shirt he is wearing in the image suits the the colour scheme of magazine. Though dark colours (Dark Green and Black) have been used, the bright white, yellow and red make the magazine look bright and stand out from it's competitivers. Also the caption is a rhetorical quesiton, with not being answered the audience want to read on as not finishing a question tends to annoy the audience also it is relating the big time festivals, making the large porportion of the audience read on to see if any significant changes have happened the their festivals. Also the font seems to be very professional with non serif. Also the features is at the top clustered together with other incentives to promote festivals, this gives more room for the image and the main headline.

Ideology

Ideology is a system of values, beliefes or ideas of what we associate with that type of media. Such as the The Mirror, we assume to be fun an a good read where as newspapers such as The Times are real life situations and politics which could be boring for some.

For my music magazine I will be chosing altenative,  which mostly will be assosicated with Metal & Rock. Which people believe are not mainsteam, not very popular or known. Also hearing the genre of music will often be turned down and not giving a chance due to it's roughness of music. Also it brings to mind breaking the rules and fighting the power. Also mainstream is associated with "plastic" artists who have been told what to do and what sing, where as the alternative genre is all creative.

Another example would be the deyes chater of values. It contains several words that are self explaintory. Such as commitment, where as you should be commited to the school work. Each is related to the school and the rules, and because it is in the Deyes High School charter of values, to relate everything towards the school.

Newsletter front cover

Here is the front cover that I have created. I have based it on a newsletter for Deyes High School. For the masthead I have used the actual Deyes logo and title as it is colourful, professional and matches the colour scheme I am using. I also have used a motto which shows of the schools specialist science college, along with that I included the logo of the specialist science aswell as the deyes high school logo along with the masthead making it look professional with leaving the space for the motto aswell as attacting a larger variety of audience as some may be intrested what a specialist in science has got to offer inside. Above the masthead I have included a pug with the date of the newspaper to show the audience if it's a new newspaper for the audience. Aswell as a pug I have included two puffs located at the bottom on the newspaper. These are featuring information inside the magazine, making the audience want read what inside the magazine. Through out the front cover I have kept a consistant colour scheem containing blue and red which also goes along well with the image I have chosen. The image is a medium shot of a sixth former looking powerful, intreging the reader what is going on wanting to read on more in the newsletter. Also the headline is centered around the sixth former, making the audience focus more on the image.

Overall it looks good but is no where near in league with the professional magazines. I will need to analyse more and try to recreate more elemnts that are used in magazines. Aswell I will need to learn more fundementals of using professional software such as photoshop to enhance my image and open up more options for improving my magazine. I have kept with the basics of creating a newspaper but I will need to advance more techniques into creating my music magazine.
